Smalltooth Sandtiger Shark

Now for Day 2!

I went for a toothier-looking fellow today known as the Smalltooth Sandtiger Shark (Odontaspis ferox), a member of the family of sharks more commonly known as the Mackerel sharks (ie Lamnids). This species is one of my favorites.
Unlike it's relative, the Sandtiger shark (aka Grey Nurse/Ragged Tooth), this species is uncommon and usually inhabits deepwater (although sometimes they are encountered in shallower areas near the rocky bottom). They're distributed patchily worldwide in warm temperate and tropical waters.
The reason I love these guys are the eyes; they don't have slit pupils. :3 They're also quite harmless, maybe even shy.

As far as approach... this picture turned out a bit messier (and again, I think I suck at scanning). >.< Colored the shark with colored pencil and then painted the background with watercolors. Enjoy!
